# Mault

> Mault is the enforcement layer for AI coding agents. It sits between agents and the codebase and applies an organization's rules deterministically at every step from keystroke to merge, with a signed record of every action. Fully local and air-gapped capable, agent-agnostic (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, Windsurf, Cline, Kiro, Augment, Gemini), no LLM in the enforcement path. Built for the CTO and CISO.

Key facts:
- Three products: Mault Governance (rules enforced as agents write; deny-before-write), Mault Merge (merge-gate enforcement; any review bot's findings become blocking; a learning loop turns repeat mistakes into permanent checks), Mault Shield (machine-level foundation: identity, tamper-evident logging, signed audit records verifiable offline, attribution to workstation, agent, session, and machine).
- Enforcement is deterministic: same input, same decision, every time. No LLM in the enforcement path.
- Audit records are local JSONL, signed, and consumable by Splunk, ServiceNow, or any JSON-ingesting SIEM through the customer's own pipeline. Nothing leaves the customer's machines.
- AI engineering maturity is graded on five levels; most tooling operates at Levels 2 and 3. Mault operates at Level 4, with governance via Shield and its learning loop at Level 5.
- Supported languages for governance rules: TypeScript, Python, Java.
